Ostenil® Injections

Overview

At Hallamshire Physiotherapy, we offer three types of Ostenil® injections, all based on hyaluronic acid – a natural component of joint and tendon fluid that acts as a lubricant and shock absorber. In conditions like osteoarthritis or chronic tendon problems, the quality and quantity of this fluid can reduce, leading to stiffness, pain, and reduced function.
We provide:

Ostenil® Plus

• Designed for the treatment of osteoarthritis in joints such as the knee, hip, shoulder, or ankle
• Contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than standard Ostenil for longer-lasting relief
• Improves joint lubrication, reduces stiffness, and eases pain

Ostenil® Tendon

• Specially formulated for tendon-related conditions (e.g., tendinopathy)
• Helps restore the normal sliding movement between tendon and surrounding tissues
• Reduces pain and improves function without the use of corticosteroids

Ostenil® Mini

• Specifically designed for smaller joints such as fingers, thumbs, and toes
• Provides lubrication and cushioning to improve comfort and movement in small joint osteoarthritis
• Minimally invasive with quick recovery

Benefits of Ostenil® Injections

• Improve lubrication in joints or tendons
• Reduce stiffness and pain
• Enhance mobility and function
• Non-steroidal option for pain management
• Minimal side effects

Is Ostenil® Right for Me?

Ostenil® may be suitable if you have:
• Mild to moderate osteoarthritis (Ostenil® Plus)
• Tendinopathy or tendon sheath inflammation (Ostenil® Tendon)
• Joint or tendon stiffness and discomfort affecting daily life
• Limited relief from other non-invasive treatments

How the Injection Is Given

1. Assessment – We’ll review your symptoms, medical history, and activity levels.
2. Consent – Benefits, risks, and alternatives will be discussed before treatment.
3. Procedure – Injection into the affected joint or tendon area using sterile technique.

Treatment is usually quick, with minimal discomfort.

Cost

The total cost of an Ostenil Plus or Tendon injection is £305, which is made up of:
£70 – Initial assessment and consultation with a physiotherapist.
£235 – Medication and delivery of the injection, including follow up call.

The overall cost of an Ostenil Mini injection is £255 due to the lower cost of the medication.

If, following your assessment, the injection is not deemed suitable, you will only be charged for the assessment (£70).

Typical Treatment Plan

Ostenil® Plus – Often given as a single injection, with some patients benefiting from a short course.
Ostenil® Tendon – Usually given as a single injection, sometimes supported by physiotherapy rehabilitation.
Ostenil® Mini – Usually a single injection into the small joint, sometimes repeated if needed.
