Cheryl Thompson

AUDIOLOGIST

Hi I’m Cheryl, I am a Senior Technical Audiologist with broad experience in the Health Care profession, having spent over 25 years within the National Health Service (NHS) and over 6 years as an Independant provider.

Having trained and qualified at Rotherham District General Hospital, I moved to Sheffield Children’s Hospital with a focus on Paediatric Testing before moving to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield where I spent 21 years.

I have performed a wide range of differential diagnostic hearing tests as well as assessing patients for possible hearing aiding, prescribing and fitting analogue and then digital hearing aids and providing bespoke rehabilitation with the aim of optimising communication skills.

I have also undertaken training to carry out Aural Micro Suction appointments for the removal of ear wax at Starkey Hearing Laboratories, Stockport.

My career has given me the opportunity to be a visiting Moderator at De Montfort University in Leicester, specialising in Tinnitus. I have also attended the 22nd European Course for the Management of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis in Cambridge and more recently completed a Masterclass in Advanced Audiology, Tinnitus and Hyperacusis at University College London Ear Institute in January 2015. I have continued to expand my work with varied, sometimes complex Tinnitus patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team and been conducting appointments to facilitate management of intrusive tinnitus mostly on a 1:1 basis for in excess of 12 years.

I am a founding member and active participant in the Sheffield Tinnitus Support Group (STSG) and registered with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a corporate member of the British Tinnitus Association (BTA).
