Melanie Forsdike

BSc

CHARTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Hi, I’m Melanie. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2001 and have since worked in many roles within the NHS, covering all areas of physiotherapy, gaining well rounded experience and specialising in Neurology. I currently work as a clinical lead physiotherapist in the community.

Alongside this role I work for Hallamshire Physiotherapy as a neurological physiotherapist with a specialist interest in Stroke, Parkinson’s, Brain Injury and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as care of the elderly.

I use evidence based practice within my assessments and treatments and have furthered my studies, completing Masters modules at the University of Sheffield, including Understanding Core Stability and Advanced Practice in Neurological Therapy.

I am Bobath trained and my project from the course was published in the national physiotherapy journal SYNAPSE. In addition I completed my PD Warrior training in 2021.

I am also a qualified Pilates instructor and have been teaching Pilates since 2005.  I now combine my specialism of neurology with Pilates and teach ‘Neuro Pilates’.  Neuro Pilates combines traditional Pilates with functional neurological exercises making it an effective form of low impact exercise for people with neurological conditions. Neuro Pilates integrates a series of exercises designed to increase strength, flexibility, improve posture and body awareness.

I also hold several national coaching awards; ISRM fitness leaders, NVQ II sport and recreation multi gym instructor and CCPR community sports leader award, which help me keep my patients fit and active.

I am passionate about helping my patients maximise independence and feel empowered.
