CHARTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Hi I’m Ruth I am a spinal specialist physiotherapist and since 2000 I have worked with the Orthopaedic spinal consultant surgeons at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.  I lead the spinal rehabilitation back groups and have a caseload of complex spine patients. I am on the National Back Pain Pathway (National Spine Network) Committee as Regional Representative 2018-2021.

I attained my MSc in manipulative physiotherapy in 2006 and have regularly presented my work at the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, the World Physical Therapy Congress and the British Orthopaedic Association. I received the Robert Williams International Award from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in 2007 for my work.

I have presented papers at the Global Spine Congress, Milan, in 2017, on spinal rehabilitation of athletes with spondylolisthesis and back pain rehabilitation. I presented at Britspine, 2018, on my special interest in rehabilitation for back pain. I was a speaker at the Primary Care and Public Health Convention at the NEC presenting on functional rehabilitation for back pain. I have also presented work on virtual back group functional rehabilitation during coronavirus restrictions at Britspine and was a speaker and organiser of back pain rehabilitation programmes as part of the National Back Pain sessions. My work has been published in various professional journals and I have held a national research grant for physiotherapy for back pain and sciatica. Previously I have done voluntary work for Sheffield FC ladies Super League 2 team. I enjoy sport, predominantly playing league tennis and was a competitive adult ice skater until 2020.
