Strong Through Menopause: Evidence-Based Exercise for Women’s Health

Hallamshire Physiotherapy is proud to introduce Strong Through Menopause — a new strength-based exercise class designed specifically for women navigating perimenopause and beyond.

Led by physiotherapist Tanja Hayselden (MSc), who specialises in hormone-aware exercise, this class offers a safe, supportive space to rebuild strength, manage symptoms, and take control of your health.

Why Strength Training Matters During Menopause?

Menopause brings significant hormonal changes, particularly a drop in oestrogen, which affects bone density, muscle mass, metabolism, and cardiovascular health. These changes can lead to increased risk of osteoporosis, weight gain, fatigue, and reduced physical confidence.

But here’s the good news: evidence shows that strength training is one of the most effective ways to counteract these effects.

According to a 2024 overview of 80 studies, physical activity — especially structured exercise like strength training — can improve physical symptoms, support bone health, and enhance overall wellbeing for women experiencing menopause (Money et al 2024).

The British Menopause Society also highlights that strength-based exercise helps maintain muscle mass, boosts metabolism, and supports emotional wellbeing, making it a cornerstone of healthy ageing (Denby and Jones 2023).

“This class is built on the science. We’re using hormone-aware programming to support women’s bodies through a time of change — not just physically, but emotionally too. It’s about strength, confidence, and community.”
— Tanja Hayselden, Physiotherapist & Founder of The Hot Pause
